How I Did This - and exciting news!

Hello, today I want to share our exciting news. We have a new Design Team member, Kath has agreed to join us as a Ribbon Girl. You can find Kath's blog here and we are really looking forward to seeing more of her lovely card creations using our ribbons and buttons :) Welcome Kath to the team!

Now onto my How I Did This project. This is the card that I made

Cover a square cardblank with kraft cardstock

Print a square of patterned paper and adhere to card

Stitch around the edge with your sewing machine

Print and trim a second piece of patterned paper, mat onto kraft cardstock and stitch around the edge

Glue the smaller square to the card

Stamp and colour your image. Cut with a circle die and layer onto a larger circle and a scalloped circle cut from kraft cardstock

Attach the stamped image using dimensional foam pads

Use a scalloped shaped die or scalloped scissors or a punch to cut a length of kraft scalloped cardstock and attach to the card

Using a length of brown satin add a ruffle along the length of the scalloped strip

Add a strip of Ultra Sticky red tape along the length of the scalloped strip

Start to stick the ribbon to the tape. Leave an end which will wrap around the bak of the card and meet with the other end

Stick a small piece then twist the ribbon slightly with your thumb either in an upward or downward movement to create the little ruffles.

Continue along the length of the sticky strip and then wrap the ends around the card and attach at the back

With the remainder of the length of brown satin ribbon make a bow, trim the edges and attach to the card with a small strip of Ultra Sticky red tape

As a final touch add a couple of fancy leaf pins in a coordinating colour

I used:
1 metre of mid brown satin ribbon
Digital papers by Crytal Wilkerson available here
Owl rubber stamp
Nesabilities circles and scalloped circle dies
Copics and distress ink
I used the sketch here at Sweet Sunday Sketches as the base for my card

****Watch out later in the week (hopefully tomorrow or Thursday) for stocks of the Ultra Sticky red tape being added to the shop as we are going to one of our suppliers today to ransack his warehouse - did I say that? I meant of course to select a few well chosen purchases :) Anyway, we will be stocking the tape as we think it is the best sticky stuff to adhere ribbons and especially our lace****

Baby Cards

Jane and I have both been playing with ribbons, paper and digital stamps by our talented friend Lori Boyd and we made a few new baby cards
Jane made this beautiful Sugar and Spice card, I love how she attached the little charm to the ribbon by hanging it on the fancy pin

I used the boy version of that stamp to make this card. I added a scrap of lace across the bottom and tied the buttons up with bakers twine

My girly baby card was a bit non traditional as I stayed away from pink and went with red - just in time too as our neighbours became Grandparents for the second time so this card went nextdoor to celebrate their new arrival

Shop Update

We've been busy today sorting out a big delivery that arrived and adding new stock to the Ribbon Girl shop - well we had to do something to keep ourselves busy whilst it rained and rained and just kept on raining here all day!

So, this is what we added to the shop today:

Pink and yellow Divine Twine bakers twine
A couple of new ranges of ribbon including double sided reversible spotted ribbons - oh my goodness I am totally in love with these and no matter how many photographs I took of them I couldn't get across just how gorgeous they really are!
An open weave ribbon, really gorgeous colours and it is soft and ties into lovely bows

Gorgeous striped twill in the prettiest of colours
We've also added a couple of new lines to our seasonal/special offer section including these cute acrylic candy canes - I'm looking forward to adding these to my Christmas crafts! as well as satin cutout holly leaf ribbon
I even spent time this morning playing with all this lovely ribbon and I made a few cards but because of the really awful weather the photographs for those will have to wait until another day :)

There is still time to join in with our ribbon giveaway, look here for the details. The lucky winner will picked on Sunday night

Get Well Soon

Does anyone need a nurse?

I love this little nurse, complete with her medical bag and stats chart. The red spotted ribbon compliments the patterned paper and I added a little red heart shaped fancy pin

Simple Birthday Card

I have a soft spot for black and white checks so this small check black and white gingham ribbon is a favourite of mine. It goes really well with the bright colours of these papers and the black cardstock as the accent colour

Gorgeous Cakes

Did you know that The Ribbon Girl sells beautiful ribbon and braid for cake decorators?
After searching for pretty cord to trim a cake Jackie was making and realising that she could only buy it from the cake supplies shop in full rolls (too expensive and she didn't want that much of it anyway) we decided to offer it in smaller quantities.

Jackie used 6mm turquoise satin ribbon, a mini diamante heart ribbon slide and silver/white

To Ewe

Jane made this darling card, the little sheep are so cute and she added one of our fancy pins to the ribbon bow for some extra sweetness

Woof

We love Button Twine! Honestly, I think we use more of this than any other embellishment on our projects. For this card I made a loopy bow with the natural button twine to attach the sentiment tag and I added a strip of large yellow ricrac

Gift Wrapping

It's easy to make a plain gift bag into a special gift with some ribbons and a few of the beautiful ribbon slides we have in The Ribbon Girl shop.

We've used 25mm fuschia pink double sided satin to create the bow and have tied on one of the extra large diamante heart ribbon slide. We snipped off the centre bar from the ribbon slide with our wire snips to create the oversized and very glitzy bag charm

Polka Dot Buttons

As well as stocking a wide range of pretty projects The Ribbon Girl also sells embellishments to use with your ribbons and today we have filled a few shelves with gorgeous polka dot buttons. With white polka dots on one side and a solid back the buttons are reversible so are really easy to use in all of your projects
They are perfect for the centres of flowers

Or as a design feature
